CHICAGO -- The Pirates have recalled outfielder John Bowker from Class AAA Indianapolis, and first baseman Jeff Clement has left for Indianapolis to begin a rehabilitation assignment.
Bowker, 27, batted .319 with four home runs and 10 RBIs in 25 games since being acquired from San Francisco in the July 31 trade that also exchanged relievers, Javier Lopez going to the Giants and Joe Martinez to the Pirates.
In 76 total games in the minors, Bowker batted .314 with 18 home runs and 46 RBIs. In 41 games with the Giants, he batted .207 with three home runs and eight RBIs.
He is expected to be in uniform this afternoon.
