Lowest score ever at U.S. Amateur

Jeff Wilson, 47, of Fairfield, Calif., shot the second-lowest score in 110-year history of the U.S. Amateur to take a seven-shot lead after the first of two days of stroke play in University Place, Wash. The field of 312 will be cut to 64 for match play.

Pro basketball

The Charlotte Bobcats agreed on a one-year deal with Kwame Brown for the veteran minimum of $1.3 million. Owner Michael Jordan drafted Brown out of high school in 2001 when Jordan was running the Washington Wizards.

• Oklahoma City Thunder center Nenad Krstic said he expects to be suspended in some way Wednesday for the world championships because of his role in a bench-clearing brawl Thursday in Serbia's game against Greece. Krstic hit Greek player Yannis Bouroussis in the head with a chair in the fight that broke out in the Acropolis tournament in Athens.

• Reigning WNBA MVP Diana Taurasi signed a multiyear contract extension with the Phoenix Mercury, ending speculation that she will take next season off.

Tennis

Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, ranked No. 2 in the world, won the rain-delayed Rogers Cup in Montreal, beating Vera Zvonareva, 6-3, 6-2. The championship match was played a day late after a weekend of relentless rain. The semifinals were played in the morning. Wozniacki beat Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-2, 6-3, and Zvonareva advanced when her opponent, 10th-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus retired with a blister on her left foot. Zvonareva led, 7-6, 1-0.

• American Melanie Oudin was upset by lucky loser Dominka Cibulkova, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, in the first round of the Pilot Pen in New Haven, Conn.

Soccer

FIFA president Sepp Blatter said staging the World Cup in England would be the easiest option as the stadiums and infrastructure are already in place. England is bidding to be the host of the tournament in 2018 or '22.

Hockey

The Detroit Red Wings agreed to a two-year contract with forward Justin Abdelkader, who played in 50 games and had three goals, three assists and was third on the team with 152 hits.

Pro football

Former Ohio State tailback Maurice Clarett asked a judge to allow him to travel to a tryout with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League. A review of the motion will take place Wednesday. Clarett cannot leave Ohio until he receives clearance from the court.

Auto racing

Swiss bank UBS signed a long-term deal to sponsor Formula One.
