The phrase even sounds delightfully old-fashioned:
"Root cellar."
And yet, many people still have, and still use, these usually small, underground spaces for storing -- in the coolness, darkness and humidity -- everything from carrots, potatoes and other roots to apples to wine, jams and other preserved foods.
