BRADENTON, Fla. -- One of the Pirates' two team buses was involved in a minor accident late Thursday afternoon in Sarasota, but no one was injured and no players were on the bus that was hit, according to team spokesman Jim Trdinich.
The accident occurred on northbound Interstate 75, as the buses were making the two-hour drive back to the Pirates' training home in Bradenton after the Grapefruit League game against the Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers. About 200 yards from the main Sarasota exit, a car bumped into the back left of the bus.
According to Trdinich, who was on that bus, the bus driver had braked and moved to the left to avoid a car that was essentially stopped in front of it because of a backed-up exit lane. A small truck hit the car, and the car spun into the back of the bus.
The drivers of the car and truck did not appear to be injured, Trdinich said.
Trdinich and the other staff members and coaches on that bus transferred to the Pirates' other bus -- the one with players -- and continued on to Bradenton, arriving at McKechnie Field at 6:15 p.m.
