Residents ask Mars Area board for school bus service
Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Several residents from the North Fields neighborhood in Adams asked the Mars Area school board Wednesday night to send school buses into their plan.

Students currently board the bus on Warrendale Road.

North Fields is one of several neighborhoods in Treesdale. Resident Janet McNulty said that 32 of the 51 homes in the plan have children in the Mars Area schools. That's a lot of children to wait for the bus on a busy main road, she said.

The school board decided three years ago not to send buses into cul-de-sacs that are not enough for the bus to drive through without backing up. They have since made some exceptions to that policy, including other neighborhoods in Treesdale.

"We have other bus stops on Warrendale Road and along [Route] 228 which are busy roadways," board President Kim Geyer said. "I believe that it is the board's intention to stay with the existing policy as is."
