Evgeni Malkin's foot isn't broken.
Whether his modest streak of 50 consecutive games played will be isn't quite so certain.
X-rays Monday did not detect a fracture in the foot injured when it was struck by a Kris Letang shot late in the second period of the Penguins' 2-1 victory Sunday at Tampa, but that doesn't mean Malkin is a lock to dress for the Penguins' game Wednesday at New Jersey.
If, for example, the pain or swelling is too severe, it could prevent him from putting on a skate.
"He's a little sore," general manager Ray Shero said. "We'll see how he is [at practice today] and Wednesday morning. Right now, he's coming on the trip and well see how he is."
Malkin's status officially is listed as day to day.
