West Virginia (28-5), which finished second in the Big East and was the runner-up in the Big East Women's Basketball Tournament last week, earned a No. 3 seed in the Memphis Region of the NCAA Women's Tournament. The Mountaineers will play No. 14 seed Lamar (26-7) in a first round game Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. in Austin, Texas.
If the Mountaineers win that game, they will advance to the second round and likely have to play No. 6 seed Texas (22-10), which plays No. 11 San Diego State (21-10) in the first round, on the Longhorns home court.
Meanwhile, the Petersen Events Center will have first round games on Sunday between Dayton Regional No. 2 seed Ohio State (30-4) against No. 15 seed St. Francis (17-14) and No. 7 seed Mississippi State (19-12) against No. 10 Middle Tennessee State (25-5). The winners of those two games will play second round games at the Petersen Center on Tuesday night.
