New Business/New Offices

Awards/Honors

Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC said Amy I. Pandit, shareholder in the corporate finance and technology section and vice chair of its executive compensation group, was named a 2010 BTI Client Service All-Star for superior client service.

Carnegie Mellon University's John Kitchin was awarded $750,000 over the next five years from the U.S. Department of Energy for developing new materials for producing hydrogen and oxygen from water using electrochemistry. Mr. Kitchin is one of 69 researchers nationwide to receive funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as part of the Energy Department's Early Career Research Program.

The Skelly and Loy and JMT project design team was recently awarded the 2009 American Society of Highway Engineers Outstanding Highway Project Award for its involvement in the I-279/SR 28 Connector Ramp Project.

Dr. Sudhakar Pesara "P.S." Reddy, professor of medicine, division of cardiology, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, received the 2010 Peter J. Safar Pulse of Pittsburgh Award from the American Heart Association, Allegheny Division.

Gary Humes of Davison was honored with the best customer experience award at the annual Davison Awards. The Davison Awards are held to recognize individuals who exemplify the inventive spirit through their attitude, effort and performance.

KACIN General Contractors won Behlen Building Systems' 2009 Building of the Year Award in the automotive category for constructing the #1 Cochran Collision Center at 5200 Campbells Run Road, Robinson. The 15,000 square-foot structure features an eco-friendly paint booth that uses only water-soluble coatings, a large mezzanine structure for storing parts, spacious offices and a fenced-in vehicle storage area. Multi Metals Co., Inc. of Greensburg served as the steel erector, and Boyd B. Anastas of Duquesne was the architect.

Dr. Raymond L. Benza of Allegheny General Hospital, was appointed by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to serve as a member of the national Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation. Dr. Benza, who is director of the Heart Failure, Transplant, Mechanical, Circulatory Support and Pulmonary Hypertension Program at AGH's Gerald McGinnis Cardiovascular Institute, will serve a three year term on the committee.

Business Notes

The Pittsburgh office of HFF (Holliday Fenoglio Fowler, L.P.) secured financing for One Smithfield Street, a 132,500-square-foot office building and an adjacent 90-space surface parking lot in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mark Popovich, managing director, worked exclusively on behalf of the borrower, Burns & Scalo Real Estate Group, in arranging the long-term fixed-rate financing for the building through a credit lender and the adjustable-rate loan for the parking lot through a local bank.
