NBA Roundup: Crawford leads Hawks to win
Friday, March 12, 2010

Jamal Crawford scored 29 points Thursday night as the Atlanta Hawks avoided a three-game losing streak by beating the Washington Wizards, 105-99.

Joe Johnson and Al Horford each scored 18 points in Atlanta's first trip to the nation's capital this season.

The game was the makeup of one that was postponed Feb. 6 because of a blizzard which left two feet of snow in the area.

Andray Blatche had 30 points and 10 rebounds for Washington, in the midst of a stretch of three games in three nights because of the makeup game.

The Wizards have lost five games in a row and seven of their past eight.

Crawford scored 12 points in the final 3:37 of the third quarter, making six free throws and connecting on two of his four made 3-pointers.

The free throws spurred a 13-1 run bridging the third and fourth quarters that helped the Hawks take an 85-73 lead.

Blatche's putback with 4:53 remaining pulled the Wizards to 92-89, but they got no closer.

The Hawks pushed the lead back to eight, but JaVale McGee rammed home his eighth dunk of the game to pull the Wizards back to 101-97.

Blatche missed a jump shot with a chance to get them closer, and Atlanta made four of six free throws to seal the win.

McGee finished with nine rebounds and scored 10 of his career-high 20 points in the fourth quarter and his eight dunks ties Orlando's Dwight Howard with the most in a game this season.

Other game

• Magic 111, Bulls 82: Vince Carter had 23 points to help host Orlando pull away early and cruise past injured Chicago for the Magic's season-high seventh consecutive win. Matt Barnes added 14 points, and reserve Brandon Bass scored 13 in another blowout victory against a struggling team for the Magic. All-Star point guard Derrick Rose sprained his left wrist in a midair collision with Orlando center Dwight Howard in the first quarter and did not return for the injury-ravaged and slumping Bulls. How long he will be out of the lineup was not immediately announced. With the loss, the Bulls fell 1 1/2 games behind Miami, Charlotte and Toronto for the eighth seed in the East.

Notes

• LeBron James, who missed the past two games after twisting his right ankle against Detroit last Friday night is likely to resume playing today when the Cleveland Cavaliers visit the Philadelphia 76er. James practiced for the first time Thursday since the injury. But another Cavaliers starter, recently acquired forward Antawn Jamison, will not play Friday because of a cyst behind his left knee. ... Miami Beach police said Heat forward Dorell Wright has been charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license. Wright was stopped around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, then booked. Bond was set at $1,000, according to Miami-Dade County corrections officials.
