This past week: Cable helped Mt. Lebanon win its second consecutive WPIAL Class AAAA girls' basketball championship by scoring a game-high 21 points in a 59-43 victory against Baldwin.
Check this out: A junior guard, Cable leads the Blue Devils in scoring with 14.5 points per game. The Blue Devils open defense of their PIAA championship with a first-round game tonight against Fox Chapel.
Your gold medal count continues to grow. What do you do with them? Nothing special. They're just hanging up in my room.
What's it like to have so many younger girls in the community look up you? It's fun. All of the little kids come to our games and come into our locker room. They're all cute and funny.
Your mom, Sue (Cox) Cable, was a talented player at Beaver Falls and Duquesne University. Basketball-wise, what have you learned most from her? In all honesty, she's just always told me to try my hardest.
In your opinion, who's the best player on the Mt. Lebanon boys' team? They're all good. I've got a lot of friends on the team, so I don't know if I can single one out. [Laughs.]
This past week: Dudzinski won gold medals in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, breaking meet records in both events, at the WPIAL swimming championships.
Check this out: The victory in the 100 backstroke was Dudzinski's third in a row at the WPIAL finals, where he has won a total of five gold medals. A junior, Dudzinski will look to win the 100 backstroke for the third consecutive year at the PIAA championships next week.
If you weren't swimming year-round, what sport would you play? Before ninth grade, I was a big football and baseball player. So, if I didn't choose swimming, I'd probably be playing one of them.
What's the largest crowd you've swam in front of? Probably close to about 500 people at junior nationals.
What colleges are showing the most interest? My top two schools right now are Stanford and Virginia.
Have you seen 'The Hurt Locker'? Yeah. It was an awesome movie. It was intense, and I loved it.
After you eat, do you wait a certain period before you swim? I came to practice after having a big pancake breakfast a couple of times, so I've learned the hard way that eating heavy before practice or meets isn't the smartest thing to do.
You're the heavy favorite in the 100 backstroke at the PIAA championships. Does the pressure bother you? I don't mind it. I know I have a big target on my back and people are gunning for me. I know that I'm going to need to go to states with my best performance in order to come out on top.
