Presston Volunteer Fire Department joins McKees Rocks
Wednesday, March 10, 2010

The Presston Volunteer Fire Department now is officially part of the McKees Rocks Volunteer Fire Department.

McKees Rocks Councilman Robert DiCicco said at Tuesday night's meeting that Presston joining the McKees Rocks department will result in a doubling of fire protection services for the borough and could lead to discounts on resident's homeowner's insurance policies.

Although the Presston VFD is located in neighboring Stowe, the department had resisted efforts by township officials to force it to merge with the West Park VFD and Fleming Park VFD to create one Stowe Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The 105-year-old Presston VFD has 45 volunteers and owns two engines and a firehouse in the Presston neighborhood of Stowe.
