Monday, March 08, 2010

HARTFORD, CT. -- No. 2 seed West Virginia beat No. 6 seed Rutgers, 56-49, tonight in a Big East Women's Basketball Tournament semifinal at the XL Center.

The Mountaineers used a 10-0 run early in the second half to take an 11-point lead as well as control of the game and then held off the Scarlet Knights, who made several runs at them but could get no closer than six points.

This is only the second time the Mountaineers (28-4) -- who will face top-ranked Connecticut tomorrow night -- have made it to the championship game.

West Virginia lost to Connecticut, 50-44, in the 2006 championship game.
