A man who was found shot to death Tuesday night in the city's Fineview section was identified yesterday as Alvin Smith, 23. No address was immediately available.

Witnesses at the scene said they heard people arguing outside and then heard gunshots, according to police. They saw the victim running from two others and heard more shots.

Police found Mr. Smith's body at the bottom of a hillside near Belleau Street. The shooting occurred around 8:40 p.m.

Police Lt. Dan Herrmann last night said detectives recovered 14 shell casings from the scene.

Two suspects, he said, might have fled in a red, four-door sedan.
