A Monroeville man who provided drugs to the driver in a fatal car accident last year pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter yesterday.
Dominic Rometo, 20, of Monroeville, was sentenced to six to 12 months in the Allegheny County Jail as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, but he will be paroled immediately with credit for time served. He also was sentenced to six years of probation.
The agreement was supported by the family of the victim, 18-year-old Brandy Morris of Penn Hills, who was in the front passenger seat when Joshua M. Ricketts -- high on a cocktail of drugs -- struck a telephone pole Aug. 13, 2007.
Prosecutors said Mr. Rometo bought cocaine and Ecstasy for the group that night, in addition to a latex solvent which he and Mr. Ricketts were huffing to get high.
After Mr. Ricketts inhaled the solvent while at the wheel, he passed out, prosecutors said, and crashed into a telephone pole, killing Ms. Morris.
Mr. Ricketts, 25, of Penn Hills, is charged with homicide by vehicle while under the influence and is due in court Feb. 23.
