Election season is never over in Pittsburgh.
Former President Bill Clinton -- who campaigned across Pennsylvania for his wife in the spring and for then-Sen. Barack Obama and U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Johnstown, in the fall -- will be in Pittsburgh next week at a fundraiser for Mayor Luke Ravenstahl.
Mr. Ravenstahl is hosting a $500-a-plate "holiday luncheon" next Wednesday at the Omni William Penn with Mr. Clinton as the featured guest. So far, about 150 invite-only guests have signed up for the noon lunch, said Fred Terling, the mayor's campaign manager.
Mr. Ravenstahl supported the former president's wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, in the state's Democratic primary in April. Mr. Terling said he did not know how the appearance by Mr. Clinton was arranged, but it was not confirmed until roughly two weeks ago.
Mr. Ravenstahl was elected in a November 2007 special election to fill the two years left in late Mayor Bob O'Connor's term. Next year he is running for a full four-year term and as yet has no announced opponents in the spring 2009 Democratic primary.
