Police probe accidental shooting of boy
Tuesday, November 18, 2008

State police in Uniontown were investigating the case of a 10-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself at his home in Fairchance on Saturday.

No charges have been filed against the boy's 35-year-old mother who, police said, allowed her son to handle a .22-caliber handgun before the shooting at about 4 p.m.

Police said the gun was in a locked cabinet before the boy asked to show it to a friend.

The mother removed the gun and gave it to the boy. She then decided to check whether it was loaded.

She grabbed the boy and the gun fired. A bullet struck him in the thigh. He was treated at Uniontown Hospital and released.
