The Westmoreland County Historical Society will hold a tour of houses of historic significance Sept. 13 and 14.
The first day will offer a self-driving tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. of these four houses and a church:
Welty Farm House, built in the 1830s, in the Hannastown-Forbes Road area of Hempfield;
Barnhart House, mid-1850s, Hannastown-Forbes Road area;
Unity Chapel, 1874, includes Unity Cemetery, 1774;
Israel T. Sheffler House, 1857, Greensburg;
Michael Rugh House, 1790, Murrysville.
Forbes Road, a major route west to Fort Duquesne during the French and Indian War, can be seen from some of the sites.
Tickets for the Sept. 13 tour are $25 in advance or $30 that day and may be purchased at the historical society, 41 W. Otterman St., Suite 310, Greensburg; Earnest Gourmet, Greensburg; Historic Hanna's Town Gift Shop; and Carbone's Restaurant, Crabtree.
A map and a booklet about the properties will be provided.
On Sept. 14, a tour and cocktail party will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barclay House, built it 1904 and one of Greensburg's finest old homes.
