CINCINNATI -- Ian Snell worked six effective innings and Brandon Moss and Andy LaRoche hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning to help the Pirates end their 10-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory against Cincinnati tonight.
Snell allowed seven hits and one earned run in his six innings and won for the second time in three starts. Snell walked and scored what proved to be the decisive run in the third inning.
It was the 20th time in their past 29 games the Pirates scored three or fewer runs.
Matt Capps pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 18th save.
Luis Cruz made his major league debut and singled in his first at-bat.
