Q: Is it wise to have a kicker as special teams captain? Especially since the special teams are still shaky and it's the first time in at least a decade since a kicker was special teams captain.

Jeff Whalen, Castle Shannon

BOUCHETTE: Captains in pro football are really ceremonial and they carry no extra distinction on the field, unlike in hockey. Linebackers James Harrison and Clint Kriewaldt shared the special teams captain duties last season. It's more of an honor in a vote by the teammates. Kicker Gary Anderson was voted special teams captain by his teammates for the Steelers twice in the 1990s.
