Question: Ed, Hello from a lifelong Steelers fan trapped up here in Belichik country. The Steelers final cuts on in the defensive backfield seemed curious to me. It appeared that Roy Lewis was a good versatile young player, and Mundy appeared to have potential too. Yet they stuck with Tyrone Carter who is a good-effort guy, but has not played well for them in big games when they have needed him. Any thoughts?

Tim Kipp, Scarborough, Maine

BOUCHETTE: Yes, plenty of them. I thought the Steelers blew it by not keeping Lewis. Mundy was another matter because he's hurt and should be available to put on the practice squad later in the season when he's healthy -- no team likely is interested in a sixth-round pick who is hurt to add to their 53-man roster. Same with injured rookie linebacker Mike Humpal. At least they did not stick with return man Eddie Drummond, and will go with their younger players there who also play a position.
