REGION

Labor Day closings, traffic restrictions for parade route

In observance of Labor Day tomorrow, city, county and federal government offices, along with schools, courts and liquor stores, will be closed.

There is no regular mail delivery, but Express Mail will be delivered.

There is no city garbage collection tomorrow. Garbage normally picked up on Monday will be collected Tuesday. Garbage normally collected on Friday will be picked up Saturday.

State Department of Transportation driver's license and photo centers are closed.

A number of Downtown streets, including Grant Street and the Boulevard of the Allies, will be closed for several hours starting around 10 a.m. for the annual Labor Day Parade.

Traffic will be stopped or detoured and many Port Authority buses will end and start outside of their normal "loops" through the Golden Triangle. The 28X Airport Flyer will stop along Liberty Avenue at Sixth Street but not at the normal place near the Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh.

When possible, parade visitors have been advised to ride the light-rail system.

The Port Authority will operate holiday service tomorrow, and riders should expect possible delays because of the parade, and some stops may be temporarily unavailable.

No work will take place in the Parkway East/I-376 construction zone between the Edgewood-Swissvale and Churchill interchanges this weekend or on most other major highways in the region because of heavy weekend traffic.
