Basketball: Lewinson in, but Fayne out
Tuesday, August 19, 2008

The Duquesne men's basketball team gained a player and lost a player yesterday.

Oliver Lewinson, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound center/forward from Payson (Ariz.) High School, signed a national letter of intent and will be eligible to play this season as a freshman. Phillip Fayne, a 6-4 guard/forward, will forgo his senior season at Duquesne due to a medical condition but will continue to take classes and remain on scholarship as a medical exemption.

Lewinson averaged 11.5 points and 9.6 rebounds this past season for the 24-8 Longhorns who were state AAA runners-up for the second consecutive season.

"Oliver is a late bloomer who had a great summer with the AAU Arizona Magic," Duquesne coach Ron Everhart said. "He has the potential to help us this year."

Fayne has lost 20 pounds since the end of this past season and was diagnosed with Still's Disease, a form of arthritis rare among adults. The cause of the disease is unknown.
