GETout spotlight

Hunter-trapper safety courses

Since 1959, the number of Pennsylvania hunting accidents has plummeted 80 percent annually, and in recent years hunters have set new safety records. Much of the credit is given to the Pennsylvania Game Commission's hunter-trapper safety courses, required of all novice hunters regardless of age. The courses have increased in scope to include ethical issues and matters of hunting etiquette, as well as firearms safety. Courses are held in every Pennsylvania county throughout the year, and usually meet over two or more days. Check the GETout events calendar or visit the Game Commission's Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us.
